Beginning in 1935, the Carmel Bach Festival began as a four-day series of concerts, and has since grown into a multi-week long collaboration between musicians, aficionados, fans and artists far and wide. The festival's mission has always been to celebrate the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, and contextualize his never-ending influence on contemporary music. Music Director and Conductor Paul Goodwin, along with Executive Director Debbie Chinn, have helped establish the Carmel Bach Festival as world-class festival worthy of the praise it's received for over the last 70 years.

2013 Highlights:

This year's festival will take place from July 13 to 27, 2013, with pre-fest activities beginning July 6-12. The 2013 Festival features a number of memorable events, including the Gala “C'est Magnifique”, on Friday July 12 at Carmel Valley Ranch. Award-winning Executive Chef Tim Wood will hand-craft a dinner featuring local ingredients and delicious farm-to-fork dishes for all attendees. Other musical highlights include J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio performed in its entirety on Sunday afternoons and the return of jazz pianist Stephen Prutsman for the Thursday crossover concerts.

The Festival includes many low cost and free events including pre-concert lectures, Tower Music in the Sunset Center Theatre courtyard, and concerts that highlight the Young Musician and Youth Chorus programs, as well as the Virginia Best Adams Master Class Fellows Showcase.

The Carmel Bach Festival has established itself as a truly one-of-a-kind event, and has made a point of partnering with established local youth and service groups in an effort to let all have access to the wonderful music at the center of the festival's cause.
