A San Francisco showing of original photographs from Robert Adler's series "Burlesque" will be on view from Thursday April 10 to May 10, 2008 at Hyde St. Gallery. The images were photographed at the historic Troc Burlesque Theater in Philadelphia in 1974. Adler's timeless photographs capture subjects and vignettes that humanize his subjects while drawing the viewer inside the world of burlesque. Robert Adler was fortunate to be able to capture in pictures with his gritty, documentary style, the personality of the theater, the employees and most of all, the performers both on and off the stage. Don't miss this show that offers a glimpse into the back stage story of the waning years of burlesque.

Also on Thursday, April 10th, Adler will be selling copies of his signed, limited edition monograph, Burlesque, at Bacchus Wine Bar, 1954 Hyde St, 6pm and 9pm, across the street from the Hyde St. Gallery. There will also be a display of Adler's works at the wine bar in conjunction with his show at Hyde St. Gallery.

Prints from this series have been exhibited in galleries in the United States and Paris and are in the permanent collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
