Welcome to the 79th Season of the Carmel Music Society. In 1926, Dene Denny and Hazel Watrous, two women who lived in Carmel, decided to enhance the cultural life of the Monterey Peninsula by creating a local concert association. Until that time, private recitals and the occasional touring concert sponsored by metropolitan booking agents were the only performances of music in the community. Dene and Hazel experimented by booking their own concerts. Those events were so successful that they led a group of local friends and music lovers to establish the Carmel Music Society - a non-profit organization devoted to bringing the finest talent in the classical music repertoire to the area. The Society presents a season of world-class performances yearly and also runs a competition for aspiring young musicians, thereby continuing a tradition of musical distinction and pleasure for audiences of the Central Coast.
