Why Masturbate? Why Masturbate-a-thon
The Masturbate-a-thon is a fun fundraiser dedicated to supporting sex education and sexual safety. Dr. Carol Queen and Dr. Robert Lawrence donate all proceeds to the non-profit Center For Sex & Culture. The story of the Masturbate-a-thon. In 1995, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders was fired after she responded to questions about safer sex by saying that "Masturbation is something that perhaps should be taught". Elders' statement was both practical and supported by sex-positive sex educators everywhere.

Good Vibrations invented National Masturbation Month in protest, sponsoring fun events and education about the benefits of Masturbation, including in 2000, the annual live Masturbate-a-thon event in San Francisco.
