Exhibition: July 1, 2008 - August 15, 2008 Artists’ Reception: Friday, July 11, 6pm Artists’ Talk: Saturday, July 19, 1pm Summer Solos 2008, three projects converge on race, identity, and hip-hop, and blur boundaries between disparate cultures. The exhibition features video installations and sculptures by Ken Lo whose work highlights intersections between the perception of Chinese culture and the self aggrandizement of American Basketball; an installation by Ala Ebtekar who fuses traditional Iranian imagery and American hip-hop iconography; and an installation by CaliGRAFFi, a collaboration between calligraphy artist Minette Mangahas and three generations of graffiti writers- Apex (SF), Denz (Oakland), Toons (LA), Zen (Minneapolis), Amend (Oakland), Demon (NY), and Lucha (NY). |
