A follow-up to Besoyan's operetta-spoof LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE, THE STUDENT GYPSY is a wacky hybrid: a Rombergesque operetta crossed with a zany Marx Brothers farce. In turn-of-the-century Singspielia, Merry May Glockenspiel, a charming but myopic young woman, takes up with a band of gypsies in her search for romance. Her mentor, Zampa the Gypsy Queen, has a dark secret involving the true identity of the Prince of neighboring Liederkranz. And what of the strange Elsie Umlaut who shows up to dispense cheese at inappropriate times? Songs include ROMANCE, TING-A-LING-DEARIE, MY GYPSY OF LOVE and SEVENTH HEAVEN WALTZ.

Presented as a Staged Concert.

Opening Night Reception provided by: L'Olivier Restaurant
