Description
The annual Tor House Garden Party brings together admirers of the wild coast of Carmel, historic architecture and the poetry of Robinson Jeffers. Enjoy an afternoon (2 - 5 pm) of perusing the granite home and 40-foot tower that Jeffers built as he crafted his remarkable dramatic poems.

As you explore the estate you’ll be enchanted by musicians, plein air painters and knowledgeable docents who reveal fascinating details about a great poet, philosopher and environmentalist. Delightful homemade refreshments are served in the garden. The on-site paintings by plein air artists Alicia Meheen, Gerard Martin, and Joe Ouwe will be for sale after the event, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Tor House Foundation.

A yearly favorite, bagpiper Ed Jarvis, will bring his haunting Scottish melodies to the top of Hawk Tower. Mark Rush on solo Irish Flute will lace the air with tunes that Una Jeffers would surely have enjoyed. A Carmel High School String Trio, featuring Melissa Martin on cello, Deanna Lynn on viola and Elizabeth Cho on violin, will enchant garden party attendees.

A raffle ($5 per ticket, 3 for $10) will offer lucky winners works of art by local artists, a Pt Lobos photograph by Ken Parker, antiques, collectibles and rare books including a first edition of Jeffers' “Give Your Heart to the Hawks”. Raffle ticket holders do not have to be present to win. All proceeds benefit the Tor House Foundation’s efforts to preserve and maintain Jeffers’ home and educate the public about his life and work.

It is also the only day photography is permitted inside Tor House, so bring your camera -- and a smile. A climb to the top of Hawk Tower provides a breathtaking vista of the Carmel coastline and the fabled beauty of Pt. Lobos. You’ll be inspired and enchanted by this special day at Tor House.
