| Description John C. Reilly is Dewey Cox in this hilarious spoof of recent musical biopics (think Walk the Line and Ray). Written by Judd Apatow (Superbad, Knocked Up) and director Jake Kasdan (The TV Set), the film gleefully lampoons the full gamut of rock history. True to the genre, Dewey has a hard-scrabble childhood - his brother suffers a fatal machete accident - only to have his talent take him to the top, with many zany stops along the way. He has the requisite shrewish first wife, falls in love with his backup singer (Jenna Fischer), trips along to India with the Beatles, tries his hand at rockabilly, Dylanesque protest music, disco and even has a Brian Wilson phase. Note: look for the uncredited hilarious turns of Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Justin Long and Jason Schwartzman as the Beatles. The songs, written by Van Dyke Parks, Mike Viola and Marshall Crenshaw, like the movie itself, perfectly yet comically capture the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll through the ages. (96m). |
