About Monterey Symphony V: Majestic Realm

Flags of many colors, poignant nostalgia, and nationalism best describe the musical offerings included in our fifth concert series. Violist Roberto Díaz is a musician of international acclaim, performing with many of the world’s leading orchestras. A catalyst for young musicians, Mr. Díaz is president and CEO of the esteemed Curtis Institute of Music.
Strauss’ colorful Overture to the Gypsy Baron returns us to the Ottoman Empire and the Hungarian countryside for another rollicking adventure of fortune and conspiracy. Everyone will recognize the sparkling “Treasure Waltz”. Prokofiev’s admired Symphony No. 7 in C-sharp Minor closes the performance with profound harmonic power.
