About Smuin Ballet Presents: Unlaced

In Helen Pickett's Petal, performers explore contact, texture, and the passion in nuance.Using lush tones and vibrant lighting, each dancer becomes a perfect blend of body and shadow. Eventually, the two join together in a color-drenched experience that reveals itself as a living kaleidoscope.

Two jewels from Michael Smuin's repertoire once again demonstrate his skill at creating narrative through dance. First in the Romeo and Juliet pas de deux and an excerpt from Michael's Hearts Suite. Featuring music by Edith Piaf, Smuin creates a fresh yet nostalgic journey based on the 1945 French film "Les Enfants du Paradis," directed by Marcel Carne.

From the classic works of Smuin, we transition to a new voice with famed choreographer Adam Hougland's world premiere. Hougland's acclaimed piece Cold Virtues premiered in the Fall of 2012. His strands of complex and purposeful style resonate with audiences around the world, weaving our evening into an exciting night for ballet fans of all types.
