Bach to Beethoven

Notes from Paul Goodwin:

"We start our final concert of the week with Brandenburg 1, though on modern instruments. This is because I am incorporating our 2015 commission by Ben Walfisch into the fabric of the piece, creating a new composition juggling between the music of S Bach and a piece inspired by the colours of this Brandenburg concerto. It should be a fascinating mix.

While on the subject of experimentation, we then play you piece by the Transylvanian composer, Gyorgy Ligeti, where he puts onto paper his response to the whirling folk music he heard around him as a child.

Then, finally to send you home on a joyous note, we blow the roof off with Beethoven's exciting 7th symphony."
