About Martha Graham Dance Company: Essential Graham
Sponsored By: Bill and Nancy Doolittle
As the oldest and most celebrated modern dance company in America, the Martha Graham Dance Company created and still embodies a timeless and uniquely American style of dance that has influenced generations of artists and continues to captivate audiences worldwide. The remarkable Rite of Spring returns to the repertory after an absence of twenty years, as does Phaedra, choreographed in 1962 and considered by The New York Times to be, “as savage a piece as she has ever given us.” Essential Graham is an evening-length program that brings to life Martha Graham’s revolutionary creative career through the use of narrative, projection and classic Graham selections.
The presentation of Martha Graham Dance Company was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Dule Charitable Foundation amd The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, with additional support from the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support for this presentation came from Arts Council for Monterey County.
